Information Governance Manager

The role

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for ensuring compliance of DeepMind and its products with information governance standards as well as regulatory standards. They will liaise with Product Managers, Design, Development, Clinical Safety and the Infrastructure Security team as appropriate to develop long term strategic plans relating to the operational delivery of information governance and associated policies.

This would include:

  • Overseeing the management of Information

  • Ensuring products and company protocol comply with applicable Information Governance (IG) standards and guidance and ISNs; in particular managing compliance with the IG Toolkit (ISB 0086) and the subsequent versions released thereof.

  • Completing the assessments and processes required within the prescribed deadlines

  • Supporting the development of software by providing IG domain expertise during all stages of product delivery.

  • Work to identify the areas of risk and exposure associated with IG for DeepMind and its products; and identify actions to address these issues

  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with key stakeholders

  • Provide expert advice on information governance in relation to any new developments within DeepMind Health

  • Keep up to date with national developments in information governance standards and ensure that they are incorporated into DeepMind strategy and delivery plans.

  • Coordinate the identification, assessment, reporting and management of risk in relation to all aspects of information governance (IG) within DeepMind including regular review of the Information Asset Risk Register

  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on IG issues, including statutory and regulatory compliance

  • Develop and implement corporate strategy, policies and procedures to support IG and effective use of information, in line with legal requirements

  • Develop, oversee and monitor IG training for staff, implement clear and robust information and data handling standards and procedures, raise awareness of IG responsibilities, and promote awareness and best practice

  • Coordinate and manage the organisation’s response to information security vulnerabilities and incidents

  • Support the appropriate and secure use and sharing of personal data, implementing, monitoring, auditing and reviewing the Data Processing Contracts, Information Sharing Protocols, Privacy Impact Assessments and Compliance Checks

  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.

  • Conduct or direct the internal investigation of compliance issues

  • Assess product, compliance, or operational risks and develop risk management strategies.

  • Identify compliance issues that require follow-up or investigation.

  • Implement and monitor any ISO standards that are required by the business

  • Provide assistance to external auditors in compliance reviews

About you

  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills and able to deliver a message to people at all levels of the business with different levels of domain knowledge

  • Documenting business processes and policy tools and techniques (desirable)

  • Understanding of software development and delivery industry (desirable)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Awareness of local and national Information Governance Strategies.

  • Knowledge of ISO9001:2015, ISO 27001:2013 and ISO13485:2016

  • Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills;

  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of operational business practices

  • Excellent domain knowledge: legislation affecting Health Records, IT, Human Rights and Equality

  • Positive, adaptable and proactive attitude;

  • Strong management and organisational skills;

  • Strong presentation skills
