DeepMind - Applied
DeepMind’s Applied Group focuses on using the best available technologies, together with our own research, to address some of the world’s most pressing and complex challenges. We work in fields from healthcare to energy efficiency, collaborating with experts to build tools to support and improve their work. Collaborating with Google teams, we also apply our cutting edge research to products used by millions of people around the world. These real world applications of AI technology help us work towards one of DeepMind’s purposes - to use intelligence to make the world a better place.
You’ll join a small and rapidly-growing team within DeepMind Mountain View that is part of a larger, cross-functional, Google-wide effort to create the next generation planet scale ML platform for all of Alphabet. Specifically, this team will focus on the ML/AI research and experimentation workflows and contribute to developing the entire stack from the user entry point all the way down to HW Platform.
Our team members are humble, self-motivated, dynamic (including lots of startup experience) and include domain experts that are very friendly, approachable and always ready to help and eager to learn.
If you are passionate about working with users to bring them tools that help achieve their goals, are enthusiastic about frontend development and have an appreciation of visual design, this is the opportunity to help accelerate world-class AI research and make a difference.
You will work cross-functionally with software engineers, project managers and designers to build tools for researchers, continuously improving their workflow. This will involve organising user studies, triaging UI related user feedback, creating mocks and feature specs for future functionality, developing high quality frontend code & actively collaborating with backend engineers.
We highly value generalist software engineers who are willing to help out with whatever moves our projects forward. You should enjoy working in a fast paced, dynamic team environment. Strong technical documentation and communication skills are a must. You should have excellent design and implementation skills as well as a keen analytical mindset.
You should be a champion of our users: proactively forming relationships with them and listening to their feedback in order to optimise their workflow. You should have a deep curiosity about AI and ML (no prior experience required). At least two years of professional experience developing frontend code is required. You should be familiar with modern frontend development frameworks and patterns. A knowledge of TypeScript and Angular is a plus.
Senior candidates should have experience with developing a sound product vision, have had client facing experience and great negotiation skills. They should also be an experienced technologist, having architected and delivered production-ready web applications in the past. Visual design skills are not essential but would be a plus to have.
