Software Engineer, Internal Tools

DeepMind is looking for a talented & self-motivated software engineer to create and enhance tools that make our Operations team more effective!

About the role

We’re looking for an engineer who will design, implement, and maintain multiple internal tools that will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of various teams within DeepMind Operations (including teams like Recruiting, People Operations, Compensation, Travel, etc). Your goal will be to “make easy stuff automated and make hard stuff possible” for these teams, and you’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders in interesting areas across the company.

You’ll be a member of DeepMind’s Research Platform team, where you’ll have access to experienced SWEs, PgMs, and UX experts who will advise and assist you. This role is an opportunity to develop a diverse set of engineering skills and grow your leadership skills as an early member of this team. Your work will make a material impact on the workflow of your colleagues; your users will be other DeepMinders, so you’ll get to work closely with helpful, motivated, and smart users who can give you immediate feedback and help you iterate quickly.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about finding the best solutions to day-to-day workflow problems within the company, whether that’s writing a script, building a dashboard, automating a spreadsheet, or writing a web application. You should be comfortable working directly with your users, setting your own priorities, and learning new technologies.

No machine learning experience is necessary for this role.

About you

Essential qualifications:

  • Programming experience in an object-oriented programming language
  • Some experience with web application development
  • Keen interest in user experience
  • Strong communication skills; interested in engaging directly with your users
  • Willing to regularly switch between various small / medium sized projects

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Google Apps Script
  • Experience with data analysis tools (like SQL, Tableau, or Colab)
  • Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Angular2
